Soma House, SRK Estate NANDI HILLS
Soham embodies the journey of transforming matter into spirit. Conceived as a spirit-bridge—suspended between
earth and sky, presence and possibility—the home responds to its majestic site in the foothills of Nandi Hills with
humility and poetic clarity. A sweeping, curvilinear roof—like an artist’s palette—floats above the pavilion-like
home, punctuated by an oculus that brings shifting sky and light into the heart of the house. The interplay of light,
shadow, wind, and terrain makes the house feel alive , as an elemental body in quiet collaboration with its environment.
The home unfolds across three experiential planes : the garden, the upper deck, and the sky terrace. Each platform
offers a distinct dialogue with nature—grounded, open, or expansive—and invites the occupant into moments of
stillness, wonder, and connection. A tall, double-height portal frames the distant ‘Elephant Rock,’ anchoring the
approach with sacred scale. Geometry is expressive yet gentle : soft curves meet angled planes, orienting the home
to the surrounding ridgelines and sculptural boulders. Volumes open slowly, like a rising crescendo—from a sunken
living area to outward decks and a sky-gazing terrace. The spatial choreography is meditative. Built-in elements ,
railings that become seats, steps that become ledges that invite pause and contemplation, transforming daily rituals
into quiet acts of reverence. Materiality is both grounded and soulful. Curved cement walls nestle into the contours
of the land, while interiors are imbued with the warmth of pigmented plaster, lime-washed surfaces, and
recycled wood. The exposed steel skeleton, with its star-shaped columns, provides a clear tectonic
framework softened by handcrafted details. Each of the four bedrooms holds a seasonal color
story, offering subtle variation rooted in natural rhythm.
Named Soham—‘I am That’—the house becomes more than shelter. It is a vessel for belonging,
a threshold for reflection, and a sanctuary where matter lifts into spirit.
