Ashadeep School VARANASI

Program: A  school for children of labourers, A single grade full school with multiple play areas and to become a  future village community centre.

 Amidst the rustic charm of Varanasi’s village landscape, ASHADEEP school stands as an ode to simplicity and intimacy. Yet on its way to completion, It had to begin operating. Ashadeep is set to be a catalyst of transformation for many young lives.

The school’s design, orchestrated around a compact court nestled within the linear plot, harmonises with the village ethos while a focal point embodying the essence of community interaction and academic engagement. A sprawling field at the front gate extends its embrace to the central court, seamlessly connecting to a series of spaces that unfurl gracefully, leading to a tree chabutara—a symbolic culmination of nature’s tranquillity within the school’s heart. This thoughtful spatial arrangement facilitates a fluid flow of movement, encouraging exploration and a sense of unity with nature.

Playful openings characterize the design, utilizing circular and arched openings along with slit screen-like fenestrations, that invite controlled natural light and ventilation.  Vibrant colours adorning doors and windows infuse the atmosphere with vivacious energy offsetting the dominant red brick backdrop, creating an ambiance where learning becomes an engaging and joyful experience.
